As HomePod pre-orders began last week and some first impressions came out, we’re able to gain more knowledge about Apple’s upcoming smart speaker. One aspect of HomePod that’s gone under the radar is how the device handles software updates. HomePod runs a special version of iOS, which means it gets new updates alongside iOS. The latest software publicly available for it is iOS 11.2.5, which will likely be the version installed on HomePods delivered on February 9th....
New images from iFun.de reveal an Apple logo on the front of the building in Hannover, Germany suggesting Apple is nearing completion on the project. Development on the site started in April last year. Although the building has been covered, iFun.de has managed to catch a photo of the Apple logo whilst it is lit up — the logo is visible because the light is bleeding through the cover. This sighting not only acts as confirmation that the site is indeed an Apple Store, it also suggests that the site is almost ready to open to the public....

One of the more annoying aspects of the Windows 10 update process that I’ve noticed (especially when testing Insider Preview builds), is the welcome screen can display for longer than ‘just a moment’. We mentioned last month that Apple is working to offer audio stories for Apple News+ subscribers, and now we can confirm that with iOS 13.5.5 beta. Apple News+ Audio will be available through the existing News app, which will get a new “Audio” tab. The interface is very similar to Apple News, but as the name suggests, users will have access to several recorded audio news instead of text. You can tap the Play button to listen to all the recent news, or choose a specific story to play....
Demonstrating how Apple’s CarPlay will be integrated into upcoming budget vehicles, Harman has shown the Integrated Essentials Cockpit, a new OEM solution that does away with direct touchscreen interaction in favor of a steering wheel-mounted touchpad. The Integrated Essentials Cockpit eliminates the currently popular center console-mounted screen, instead bringing Apple’s CarPlay interface directly into the dashboard behind the steering wheel. Unusually, the CarPlay UI then sits between a left-side speedometer and a right-side tachometer, below a bar with a thermometer and above a fuel gauge and odometer....
