As beloved as the Harry Potter franchise and its many Hogwarts teachers are in our hearts, J.K. Rowling is an astute writer who knows better than to write flawless characters who never grow or change. None of her characters are perfect, even the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore himself. In fact, he may be the most flawed professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. That’s a good thing, since perfect characters would be boring, but some of Rowling’s writing makes us wonder exactly what she thinks makes for a good teacher....

Update: HBO today extended the deprecation date another two weeks, so HBO Now will keep working until May 15th and HBO Go will continue for a few more months. The HBO Now app is ending support for the third-generation Apple TV on May 15 (originally scheduled for April 30). HBO Go will be discontinued at a later date. The apps will no longer work when that time comes; a banner is now visible in the HBO app on the older Apple TV boxes explaining the impending removal....

Apple and Google announced a collaboration to release a COVID-19 contact tracing API at the end of last week. It will enable health departments around the country to release apps to track and contain the pandemic but there are still privacy and security concerns even though Apple and Google have described how the approach will work anonymously via Bluetooth as well as questions about how it will all roll out to users....

Obviously Harry Potter’s group Dumbledore’s Army is mostly made up of good ‘ole reliable Griffyndors, but that doesn’t mean that they’re all just a bunch of goody-2-shoes, Hogwarts has more to offer than that. Some of them have a bit of a chaotic streak, some of them are just by-the-book good guys, and some of them are actually super rigid in their unflinching devotion to all things just in the world....

The main character in the Harry Potter series was touted as an example of a tragic character who grew into the role of a hero, but an unsung protagonist came in the form of Neville Longbottom. None of J.K. Rowling’s numerous changes to the story can alter this character’s sad tale.
