Blizzard has announced that the 16.4 update for Hearthstone Battlegrounds has introduced the brand new dragon type minion. Update 16.4 is shaping up to be the largest update in the history of Battlegrounds.

Hearthstone has gained massive popularity since it released in 2014. It is a very simple card game, but Hearthstone is notoriously difficult to master. Despite the game’s popularity, it has attracted controversy over the last year because of Blizzard’s treatment of a competitive player. Fans were outraged when Blizzard banned Blitzchung for protesting the Chinese government. Blizzard continued to mishandle the situation as more players stood in solidarity with Blitzchung, but for the most part the company ignored the fallout or canceled events to prevent protests. The company’s views on the situation even cost Blizzard a sponsor before BlizzCon.

Blizzard announced today that the large 16.4 update would be including the dragon type minion for Hearthstone’s Battlegrounds mode. This is the very first time that Battlegrounds has gotten a new minion type since the game mode released. Altogether there will be 18 minions added to the game, and 12 of those will be dragons. Even more interesting though is that all of these minions except for two will be completely new to Hearthstone and will be exclusive to the Battlegrounds mode.

Additionally, there will be 7 brand new heroes added to Hearthstone as well, all of which will be dragons. These heroes are incredibly strong and bring some interesting new abilities to the table. For example, Deathwing gives plus 3 damage to all minions including your opponents, whereas Reno Jackson can make a friendly minion golden once per game. To celebrate the new additions to Hearthstone, Blizzard will be giving out free card packs to those who log in and watch Twitch streams.

Hearthstone is one of the most interesting digital card games on the market. Despite Blizzard’s recent mishaps with Chinese protests, fans continue to get excited about content updates for the game. The addition of Battlegrounds ensured that the game became all the more engaging and interesting. Dragons will most likely ensure that the game evolves in new ways over the next several months, and hopefully fans will enjoy the work that Blizzard has put into the new update.
