HBO Max just revealed a new reality show called 12 Dates of Christmas. Set to premiere in 2020, the new title joins a long list of features that will be available only on the exclusive streaming app.

Expected to launch in May 2020, HBO Max is a brand new direct-to-consumer streaming service from AT&T’s WarnerMedia. Reported to hold 10,000 hours of streaming content, HBO Max will feature popular titles, such as Friends, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The Big Bang Theory, and South Park. In addition to the well-known titles, the streaming service will also produce a range of original content, including two new DC Comics shows and a healthy supply of unscripted content. Reportedly costing around $15 a month, the streaming service will of course include the full range of HBO’s original series. While the launch date is still a few months away, we’re finally get a sneak peek into the reality content available on the new site.

According to People, HBO Max announced an unscripted series entitled the 12 Dates of Christmas. Slated to arrive on the streaming service next year, the show “will follow a cast of singles as they step into a real-life romantic comedy full of cozy sweaters, fireside cuddles, and mistletoe kisses, all arranged to help these souls find love — just in time for the holidays.” Set near a “picturesque Christmas castle,” the show will follow the singles as they participate in typical winter activities, like ice skating and sleigh rides. Along the way, the singles will experience “twists and turns” before ultimately choosing “a special someone to take home for the holidays, with the hope of a perfect Christmas ending.”

In a statement describing the show, HBO Max’s executive vice president said, “Viewers can grab some hot cocoa, watch the romance unfold and be charmed right along with these hopeless romantics as they search for a Christmas miracle — true love.” Her statement was accompanied by Objective Media Group EVP Jilly Pearce, who said, “12 Dates of Christmas is inspired by our love of Christmas rom coms past and present. It’s a romantic, fun and feel good dating show with a difference, and has the perfect home with HBO Max.”

By the sound of it, the 12 Dates of Christmas aims to bring Hallmark movies to life. The Christmas miracle of true love and the picturesque castle sound exactly like a TV movie that ends with the protagonist either moving back to her hometown to be with her high school sweetheart or setting off to rule a foreign country, despite her lack of experience. In addition, the new series has a Bachelor-esque feel. A group of singles looking for love and participating in elaborate dates sounds like it should be filmed in the Bachelor Mansion, rather than the hallways of a castle. All in all, the series sounds totally ridiculous and entirely engaging. We will definitely be watching.
