A Hawkeye TV show starring Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton is in the works at Disney+, with the master archer getting his own Marvel Cinematic Universe spinoff in which he reportedly passes the torch to Kate Bishop. The MCU is set to change in a big way with Avengers: Endgame later this month. Picking up after the cliffhanger ending of Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame will complete the story the MCU has been telling since it began in 2008’s Iron Man. As a result, many of the original Avengers characters are expected to receive sendoffs - whether by dying or in some other way.

However, there are ways for major movie characters to live on even if the MCU film franchise starts focusing on different, newer heroes. One such way is through a Disney+ Marvel TV show. Marvel Studios is producing a number of TV spinoffs from the MCU for the upcoming streaming service, including a Loki TV show as well as one following Scarlet Witch and Vision. Another reported to be in the works is a show about Falcon and the Winter Soldier, two longtime allies of Captain America. Now it appears Hawkeye will receive his own TV show as well.

Variety is reporting Marvel Studios is developing a Hawkeye limited series for Disney+ with Renner attached to reprise his movie role as Clint Barton. The project will reportedly be an “adventure series” in which Clint passes the torch of the Hawkeye mantle to Kate Bishop, a character from the comics who also goes as Hawkeye. Disney and Marvel have yet to confirm the report, but each of the MCU series is expected to run six to eight episodes.

Since Hawkeye hasn’t received a solo movie in the MCU, he’s one of the more popular characters that fans champion for a solo film or TV project. With Black Widow getting a movie that will release in Phase 4, Hawkeye was the only one of the original six Avengers not to receive a solo project - until now. Fans of the archer are no doubt pleased by the news of the Hawkeye Disney+ TV show since it will give viewers much more insight into the character than the films ever did. Hawkeye has been sidelined for many films, spending the majority of The Avengers as a mind-controlled lackey and sitting out Avengers: Infinity War altogether. After returning in Avengers: Endgame later this month, the Hawkeye TV show will be able to give Clint a story of his own and a satisfying sendoff as he passes the torch to Kate Bishop.

Of course, this TV show also raises the concern that Hawkeye won’t get his due in Endgame. Based on Clint’s new costume, it’s believed he adopts the persona of Ronin from the Marvel Comics. And Renner’s Clint has been a focal point of fan discussion surrounding the Avengers: Endgame trailers, but it’s still unclear what his role in the movie will be. With this Hawkeye series set to give Clint more of a proper sendoff, it’s possible his story won’t get any significant resolution in Endgame. At least, not on par with fellow Avengers like Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.),  Captain America (Chris Evans) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). But that remains to be seen when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters.

Until then, Hawkeye fans can rest assured knowing the character will get an MCU project of his own, and he’ll be joined by the fan-favorite character Kate Bishop. It’s unclear when the Hawkeye TV show will premiere on Disney+, but fans will no doubt be eagerly awaiting more news on the series.
