Hawkeye is one of the many Marvel Studio’s projects that will be heading to Disney Plus over the next few years. We already know a little about the series, which will be based around the most underrated Avenger teaching a new Hawkeye the ropes.

There’s plenty to be excited about concerning this new show, especially since it’ll be something quite fresh for this universe. However, there are also various causes of concern. Here are 5 things we’re looking forward to and 5 things we’re worried about for Hawkeye.

NERVOUS: HAIR CUT

We can’t write this article without mentioning the terrible Hawkeye haircut. We understand that it represents a new way of thinking after Clint lost his family. It symbolizes a change of attitude to someone grittier and far more deadly.

However, that hair cut really needs to go. It looks ridiculous but we’re worried that the Studio may believe that this contributes to Clint’s new look so well that they have to keep it. Here’s hoping we go back to the original Hawkeye do though.

CAN’T WAIT: KATE BISHOP

Kate Bishop has been one of the most sought after characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s exactly the sort of new blood that’s needed across this franchise and it will be really interesting to see her inserted further into this world of heroes.

Adding Kate Bishop also provides an opportunity to introduce the New Avengers, one of the best younger teams in all of comics. She has a lot of skill and ambition and a tonne of heart. It would be intriguing to see these characters interact for the first time.

NERVOUS: MCU CAMEOS

We know that this is a connected universe and therefore there will probably be other MCU characters popping up. The chances are Black Widow will be making some sort of flashback appearance to cement the friendship between the two further.

However, Hawkeye has always been overshadowed in these larger crossover films. It’s great that he’s finally getting his own show. We don’t want another character coming in and stealing the limelight. This is a mentor story so don’t add in another character who could serve the role.

CAN’T WAIT: NEW TRICKS

Hawkeye has been full of different tricks and gadgets across the films. He’s incorporated more and more weaponry into his arsenal and it’s been really fun to see all the different arrows that he has access to. We think the show can capitalize on this more.

Because there will be a lot of action throughout, as well as two characters with similar abilities taking part, there’s going to be a lot of innovative weapon use. There’s plenty of inspiration from the comics on how to use those arrows to their full effect.

NERVOUS: DELAY

The recent reports of a delay have worried us slightly. There has been an alleged controversy involving the star of the project Jeremy Renner and many outlets have suggested this is the reason why production could be put on hold for the show.

However, there are also contrasting reports suggesting that the production is running as per usual and that filming will start later this year. We’re hoping the rumors are wrong and that the series will come out as expected next year.

CAN’T WAIT: VILLAIN

Hawkeye has never had his own villain in the MCU and we’re excited to see who he could be up against. There’s plenty of villains that could return from other parts of the MCU although it may be better to bring in someone completely new.

His brother, who often goes by the name of Trickshot, is a character that may potentially be eyed for the role of lead villain. There are others such as Crossfire who could also fulfill the role nicely; one return we would expect though is that of Bullseye.

NERVOUS: FAMILY

Hawkeye’s family has been a major part of the character previously, but there’s not that much more that can be done with them. They’ve kind of fulfilled their storyline purpose and it will be more interesting to see the development with Kate Bishop instead.

We, therefore, hope that the whole series isn’t just set on the ranch with all the family constantly involved. We can see them certainly providing support in the journey, with Laura Barton providing good advice in regards to Kate, but no more than that.

CAN’T WAIT: DAYS AS RONIN

We’ve had a sneak preview of Clint’s days as the vigilante known as Ronin. If someone else is taking on the Hawkeye mantle we’d love to see Clint step into the Ronin costume full time. However, there’s more to this character we’d love to see explored.

Throughout the series there can be different flashbacks to the years that Barton spent as Ronin, traveling the world in the search for revenge. His time in Japan is of particular interest, although perhaps he can also return to Budapest one last time.

NERVOUS: FLASHBACKS

The types of flashbacks we don’t want to see are the earlier ones in Hawkeye’s career. We don’t think that these can add anything new to the character. Sure the series might want to explore the relationship with Widow, but this seems unnecessary.

There are flashbacks that can definitely serve the story, from more recently, but taking us to a time where Clint was learning how to be part of S.H.I.E.L.D. is the kind of thing we’ve seen before. The only time it could work is if it involves his childhood with his brother, Barney.

CAN’T WAIT: COSTUME

Every new Marvel franchise is usually gifted with a new costume. Although we’ve seen Hawkeye around before it’s likely he’ll be getting an upgrade as well. Either to the final version of Hawkeye, with a mask from the comics, or perhaps as Ronin again.

What’s even more exciting is the prospect of Kate Bishop suiting up as the hero. The costume will be very different to what we’ve seen in the MCU so far and we imagine that the design will be very practical but stand out as a superhero costume.
