Of all the many supporting characters in Harry Potter, Fred and George are definitely some of the most loved. They might be some of the most favorite characters from the books overall even though they aren’t a huge part of the plot. Their mischievous natures and wit make them really likable. While the pranks that Fred and George pull are often really funny, there are also times where they take things too far. They can definitely be shameless when it comes to breaking rules and trying to be funny.
Here are the ten most shameless things that Fred and George Weasley ever did.
GIVING HARRY THE MARAUDER’S MAP
For many years, Fred and George use the Marauder’s Map for their own purposes. While this is rather shameless in and of itself, another troubling thing about their use of the map is when they give it to Harry. While they might be trying to help him out, this wasn’t a very smart thing to do. They give him the map when Sirius Black is known to be coming after him, and they don’t even consider how this could put Harry’s safety at risk.
DISOBEYING AND BEING DISRESPECTFUL OF THEIR PARENTS
Fred and George aren’t people that care very much about authority figures, and they definitely like to be independent and do their own thing.
While being disrespectful or disobeying parents is something that many people do when they’re young, they sometimes take things too far. They never seem to feel any remorse over things such as stealing the Ford Anglia to go rescue Harry. They are rather rude about their parents and don’t seem to have a problem with this.
BEING PRETTY RUDE AND SOMETIMES EVEN CRUEL TO RON GROWING UP
Given that Fred and George are Ron’s older brothers, it makes sense that they would sometimes not be nice to him. Some of this is just normal stuff that happens between siblings, and it’s not abnormal for older children to pick on younger ones. However, sometimes they took things way too far. Turning Ron’s teddy bear into a spider was out of line and trying to get him to make an Unbreakable Vow was even worse.
SNEAKING INTO HOGSMEADE ALL THE TIME
Fred and George are known for being two of the biggest rule breakers that Hogwarts has ever seen. They are known to pull a bunch of pranks and break lots of rules. Using the Marauder’s Map, these two would often sneak out of school and into Hogwarts. Plus, they would use the map to find secret passageways that would allow them to evade trouble and pull even more pranks. While a lot of this was mostly harmless fun, it’s true that they never had any shame about doing any of it. In fact, they were really proud.
DROPPING OUT OF SCHOOL
While Umbridge was in charge of Hogwarts, things at the school were awful. Given how much of a terrible person she was who abused her students, it’s not surprising that Fred and George left and didn’t want to come back while she was there. Given that she was going to physically punish them, it makes total sense they dropped out.
However, the fact that they never had any interest in coming back even though they had almost graduated is kind of troubling. It makes them seem like quitters.
USING THE HOUSE ELVES FOR FREE FOOD ALL THE TIME
In the Harry Potter world, the way that house elves are treated is pretty awful. No one really seems to see a problem with them having little rights. They don’t even care that many house elves are abused. So, the fact that Fred and George have no problem using the house elves at Hogwarts for their own ends is rather shameless of them. They seem to enjoy being waited on hand and foot and never stop to think twice.
NEVER HAVING MUCH REMORSE FOR THEIR ACTIONS
While Fred and George might be pranksters at heart, they never seem to feel bad about their more extreme pranks. They don’t really think that much about others, and they can go too far when it comes to making people laugh or pulling a joke. While some of the things they do are just fun or silly, they should have a little more shame when it comes to pulling pranks that could hurt other people.
GIVING DUDLEY THE TON TONGUE TOFFEE
Dudley is a character that is a huge bully. He is extremely spoiled, and he picks on lots of people, especially Harry. He definitely is a character who needs to learn how to treat people better, and there’s something enjoyable about seeing him get bullied back a little.
However, giving the ton tongue toffee to Dudley ends up making a huge mess for Arthur Weasley to take care of. It also has consequences for Harry who has to live with his aunt and uncle who already hate him and fear magic.
PUTTING MONTAGUE INTO THE VANISHING CABINET
Of all of Fred and George’s pranks, this is the one that is most dangerous. While Graham Montague is a Slytherin who is quite a bully and also a member of the Inquisitorial Squad, Fred and George should have been a little more careful. While Montague was probably a bad person, the fact they stuffed him in the Vanishing Cabinet and didn’t even worry at all if he got injured or where he ended up is disturbing. At the very least, they should have had some shame as they could have gotten in big trouble if he died.
EXPERIMENTING ON FIRST YEARS
When Fred and George are developing their own line of joke products, they definitely cross lines when it comes to figuring out their Skiving Snackboxes. They are using magic in ways that cause people to get sick, and even though they test them out on themselves first, having first years take candies that make them do things like pass out definitely wasn’t okay. They are also really brash about the whole thing as they have the testers try the products out in public in the Gryffindor common room.
