One of the most popular Harry Potter fan tattoos you can get is one of the four Houses. It is especially popular since you can take a quiz on Pottermore to find out which House you belong to. Since the website was made by J.K. Rowling herself, it’ll be as canon of an answer as you will ever find on the vast internet.

Gryffindor is the house of courage and loyalty. Its symbol is the lion and its colors are red and gold. It is also incredibly popular since its the House of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Though it is said that a lot of people who fit into other Houses can end up in Gryffindor. Harry was a prime example, since he almost was sorted into Slytherin.

Gryffindor Lion

Jorell is a tattoo artist that loves to use a lot of color. His gallery contains a lot of animals, so he was in his element when tasked to make a Gryffindor lion tattoo for this client.

Getting a tattoo on a lion with colors of red and gold is a great Gryffindor tattoo. To non Harry Potter fans, it may be just a lion, but to you and your fellow fans it is something more. As you will see with the other tattoos on this list, there are a lot of different styles for a Gryffindor lion.

Scarf And Deathly Hallows Symbol

The symbol for the Deathly Hallows is a classic Harry Potter tattoo. Some simply get the symbol while others add to it to make it more unique. In this case, someone decided to add a Gryffindor scarf!

Scarves are a great way to show off your House pride in Hogwarts since they are striped with the House colors. The characters wear these scarves all the time and they are also popular for fan costumes. This tattoo by Rachel Baldwin is just one example. Others sometimes put the scarves on Disney characters or owls.

Lion And Dumbledore Quote

Done by Joanne Baker from Edinburgh, Scotland, this lion sports Gryffindor pride with all the colors of the rainbow. The quote below the lion is from Dumbledore and it says “Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic." He said this quote in the Deathly Hallows book. The second part, which is not tattooed is, “Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”

Dumbledore definitely has some great quotes that make excellent tattoos.

Lion With Hogwarts

Self-proclaimed “Slytherin Wizard,” CodyDresser, did this Gryffindor tattoo for a client. This is actually one of his many Harry Potter fan tattoos. He has inked Hedwig, Dementors, the Golden Snitch, the Goblet of Fire, and much more.

This particular one shows Hogwarts castle, the Deathly Hallows symbol, Harry playing Quidditch, and the Gryffindor lion.

Gryffindor Care Bear

Quite the unique crossover! This tattoo was done by Stabby Gabby, who has a very cute tattoo gallery. They are no stranger to Harry Potter or Care Bear tattoos either, as they’ve done more than just this adorable lion. There is even a Luna Lovegood and Swift Heart mashup tattoo in the gallery as well!

If you are not a fan of Care Bears, Stabby Gabby also made a sweet tattoo of a badger wearing a Hufflepuff scarf.

The Sword of Gryffindor

Tattooed by Cori Henderson, the Sword of Gryffindor is a more subtle choice for a Harry Potter fan tattoo. Only the most major fans may recognize it, unless you add a little something more obvious to it. The sword has quite a history in the wizarding universe, but most people were first introduced to it in the second book. The hat materializes out of the Sorting Hat and Harry uses it to save Ginny from Tom Riddle’s Diary and the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets.

Gryffindor Crest

This tattoo is as obviously Gryffindor as they come. Gryffindor’s crest is THE Gryffindor symbol and you can find it as a sticker, patch, on a blanket, or any other object you can think of on the internet. Obviously though, there are many different styles and ways to tattoo the crest. This tattoo by Bryan Mckinley is a stylized version.

In the original crest design, the lion is smaller and far less detailed. The lion is also layered over a red and gold pattern on the shield.

Luna And Her Gryffindor Lion Hat

This tattoo was created by Ryan Campbell. Its style is what is known as neo-traditional among tattoo fans and artists. They are quite popular, and the style really works with Luna and her lion hat.

Luna’s fashion sense in Harry Potter is wacky, fun, and imaginative. She is a Ravenclaw, but she decided to show her support for Gryffindor (when they weren’t playing against Ravenclaw, of course) at Quidditch by wearing a huge lion hat to the game. It even could do a realistic lion roar when Luna tapped it with her wand.

Wizard Totoro

Artist Pekopeko Nourstattoo is talented when it comes to cute tattoos, and this one is a great example of her work.

Totoro is from My Neighbor Totoro, an anime film made by Hayao Miyazaki. Those who love Harry Potter typically would love his work as well, as his films delve greatly into magic and fantasy. As to what kind of magical creature Totoro actually is, we don’t really know. Anime has a lot of beings outside of western understanding, and that is part of why those who appreciate magic often watch a lot of anime as well.

Lion And Sword

Rather than just getting a Gryffindor lion or the Sword of Gryffindor, why not do both? That is what this client did.

The tattoo was done by Danny Hernandez from Florida. His gallery has a decent amount of fandom tattoos. He has also done an “Always” tattoo, which is popular among Harry Potter Snape fans.
