A Get Out parody poster inspired by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back from their positions as senior members of the British Royal Family is making the rounds online. The one-sheet has been slowly garnering interest and is quite now a popular talking point in various digital communities.

It has been three years the couple’s relationship was officially confirmed, effectively ending Meghan’s acting career. She subsequently left USA Network’s Suits where she played the law firm’s paralegal Rachel Zane since the show’s inception. Not long after that, the pair tied the knot in an intricate ceremony in 2018. Flash forward to 2020, they share a son together and have been carrying out Royal duties - until news broke out that they’re essentially limiting their involvement with Royal Family affairs. Between that and the fact that Markle’s is the first mixed-race woman to marry into the clan, a fan related the situation to the premise of Get Out.

The Jordan Peele film released in 2017 earned rave reviews for its clever storytelling and thought-provoking message. In it, a black photographer, Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya), was roped in by his white girlfriend Rose Armitage (Allison Williams) for a weekend at her parents’ house in the suburbs. Get Out’s narrative goes through a series of twists and turns, but in the end, Chris discovers that Armitages lure black people in and take their bodies to house the consciousness of their ailing family members and friends. The fan-created poster was shared on Reddit by nineknives and takes on the design of Get Out’s ensemble one-sheet, but instead of the film’s cast, they’re replaced by key members of the Royal family like Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip and of course, Harry and Meghan. Check it out below:

Obviously, the poster was created with being humorous in mind. It doesn’t necessarily imply that the Royal family represents the Armitages and their scheming ways in real life. If anything, Get Out was only used as an inspiration due to the fact that like Chris and Allison, Harry and Meghan is an interracial couple. While there’s no direct parallel between the film and real-life other than that, it’s worth noting that the issue of race is a significant factor in both scenarios. Since their relationship has been made official, the barrage of unfair criticism brought out by misogyny and racism have been thrown at the pair, particularly at Meghan. And that apparently  factored in their controversial decision.

Specific details regarding how this new set-up for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are still unclear. They did say in their official statement that on top of wanting be financially independent, they’re also planning to split their time between United Kingdom and North America, which means that Meghan can find her way back into Hollywood. Regardless of whatever they plan next, it’s safe to say that interest in their growing family won’t let up. Hopefully, however, this would allow them to filter the uncalled for toxicity thrown at them.
