The Suicide Squad director James Gunn, Harley Quinn and Groot get the ultimate impossible team-up in new art. Gunn has already made his mark on the MCU by writing and directing both Guardians of the Galaxy movies (and reportedly helping out behind-the-scenes on Avengers: Infinity War), and will continue making his mark when he takes the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. But before the next Guardians movie cranks up, Gunn will put his special stamp on that other comic book cinematic universe as he brings to life the DCEU sequel The Suicide Squad, which features Margot Robbie back as Harley Quinn.

Inspired by Gunn’s cross-cinematic-universe talents, comic book artist Lukas Ketner recently created a piece of dream fan art bringing together Harley Quinn from the DC Universe and Groot from Marvel’s Guardians, along with Gunn himself plus a few other surprise characters who are important in Gunn’s work. The art was shared with Gunn by David Dastmalchian as the Suicide Squad actor wrapped up work on the film. See the image in the space below:

In addition to Quinn, Groot and Gunn, the image includes Gunn’s dog Wesley Von Spears, who appeared in both Guardians movies, and the character Crimson Bolt, the superhero alter ego of Rainn Wilson’s Frank Darbo in Gunn’s pre-Guardians cult favorite Super. The image’s artist Ketner happens to work with The Suicide Squad actor Dastmalchian on the comic book Count Crowley: Reluctant Midnight Monster Hunter (indeed, Gunn and Dastalchian are both seen wearing Count Crowley t-shirts in the Instagram gallery featured above). Dastmalchian is set to play the character Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad, which is currently shooting (and in fact recently wrapped its location work in Panama).

No official synopsis has yet been released for The Suicide Squad. The movie’s reported cast also includes Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Taika Waititi, Michael Rooker, Jai Courtney, Nathan Fillion and Peter Capaldi.
