Sometimes it seems like television and movies have become interchangeable. Television series that many fans felt were canceled before their time, such as Firefly and Veronica Mars, got the chance to continue their stories on the big screen. The Simpsons and The X-Files both released films in-between seasons. The events that happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe affect the events of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And movies such as Bewitched, 21 Jump Street, and the upcoming C.H.I.P.S. are all based on television shows from decades ago.

While TV is providing the source material for some films, the opposite is also happening. There are a number of shows on TV which are based on movies, or else continuations of those movies. Ash vs. Evil Dead and Training Day, are just a few examples of current television shows which are continuations of popular films, or else inspired by them. And a number of other shows adapted from movies are in the works, including The Lost Boys, S.W.A.T., and Out of Africa.

Another film in the process of being adapted to television is Hanna. According to THR, Hanna the Series is being created by The Night Manager writer David Farr for NBC International. Farr also co-wrote the film Hanna, and will executive produce the series along with Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements.

Hanna was released in theaters in 2011. It starred Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) as a teenage girl raised to be an elite assassin by her ex-CIA agent father, played by Eric Bana (Star Trek). Cate Blanchett (Carol) also starred as Hanna’s nemesis, a CIA Agent named Marissa determined to find both the girl and her father. The movie followed the violent game of cat and mouse between Hanna and Marissa, each one trying to kill the other one.

At this time, there is no word on whether the series Hanna will be a continuation of the movie, following the events that happened after the film ended. Or whether it is a sort of remake, telling the story new.

Since Hanna was released in theaters, Ronan was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar in 2016 for Brooklyn, as well as numerous other awards and nominations. She has six movies scheduled for release over the next two years, so odds are she will not be available to reprise her role as Hanna.
